Chengdu International
Youth Music Festival 2007 Highlights
The inaugural 2007 Chengdu International Youth Music Festival was a great
success with participation of Australian and Chinese High Schools with a
variety of Orchestras, Stage Bands, Concert Bands, Jazz Bands and Choirs.
More than 600 students performed over 2 days in the Golden Opera House at the
Chengdu International Conference Centre .
We are excited to now be able to offer the opportunity to participate in the
2008 Festival to High Schools in the United States of America and Canada.
Festival Sightseeing
The International students were able to experience some of the 2000 year old
culture of China on their sightseeing excursions around Chengdu.
Giant Buddha
Travel to the ancient city of Leshan to see the Giant Buddha. This is the
largest sitting stone Buddha in the world and measures 71 meters ( 230 ft ) in
height and was carved from the cliff face hundreds of years ago. Also explore
the city of Leshan.
See the Pandas
Visit the Panda Base Research Station. Discover the Giant Panda and also the
Red Panda in this magnificent 600 acre natural setting of lush green bamboo and
gardens. Afterwards return to Chengdu to discover the many cultural sights this
city has to offer.
Irrigation System
Visit the Dujiangyan irrigation system which is a miracle of Chinese ingenuity.
Built about 2200 years ago, the irrigation system controlled the flooding of
the Min River and provided irrigation to the fertile plains surrounding it.
See Ancient China
This morning you will visit the Sanxingdui Museum. This museum houses some of
the greatest cultural antiques of ancient China. It contains stone, bronze and
gold relics from a bygone era and has won numerous awards for its exhibitions.
